Welcome!
Let me introduce myself.
I live in Central Pennsylvania in a very, very old farmhouse. Bushel & a Pickle is my blog. Sharing my life experiences that incudes home, food, travel, family and faith is a delight for me.
a little background
My husband, Jim and I began our life together in Germany over 40 years ago where we both served in the US Army. Little did we know when we arrived to serve in different locations that our paths would cross after a more than a year. We arrived with limited luggage and left 3 years with more luggage and a container shipped with furniture, lots of dishes, Bavarian crystal and art. Bonus, we were not only married; we were pregnant with our first child.
Thus began our lives together with many moves and many travels. Though the many moves to military quarters, rentals, apartments and homes making each place a home for our family was a passion of mine.
After Jim retired, we moved our family of five to China for a new career. Figuring out how to made our apartments home was a fun challenge of creativity and resourcefulness!
We returned with a family of seven!
family grows through adoptions and weddings
We adopted our two youngest daughters when we lived in China. Read that miracle story HERE. Eventually we returned to our 200 year old PA farmhouse.
Our family has been blessed as we grew to include our amazing son in law and 2 wonderfully dear daughters in law and 7 grandchildren.
faith and Home
Our faith, an integral part in our lives, has carried us through the years. We knew and we trusted God would lead the way and open doors for us.
Our home had been a place of welcome. Those visitors have been colleagues and Internationals rom many countries and cultures. Many wonderful conversations happened around our table and in the living room!
travel
Not only did we lived in Germany and Asia, we also traveled a lot! Our sons had a competition going counting how many continents and countries they had visited.
All five kids were competitive about how many countries they visited! When they were older, their list was no longer the same as Jim and me.
After the girls graduated from high school we took them on a magical trip to Europe. Counting Amy’s bungie jumping in the Alps as a magical event was iffy in my mind!
More recently we have gone sole on 2 cruises and many weekend trip other than visiting our kids.
Living Close is sweet
Today, we are no longer scattered over three continents. Thankfully! Everyone lives with in easy driving distance which I love!
Jim and I are now empty nesters! A new adventure for sure.
