Meg’s deep penetrating eyes have always had the capacity to hold me captive. Those eyes remind me of what I think Jesus’s must be like at times. Penetrating looks deep into my heart.\
For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. 2 Chronicles 16:9a
He Sees Me
I feel laid bare sometimes when she looks and waits. Most of the time I know what she wants. Sometimes I know she is disappointed. Puzzled at my words.
Then there are the times I feel like she sees right into my soul.
For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord,
And He watches all his paths. Proverbs 5:21
She challenges me with her eyes. To do better. To not worry. To not disappoint. To be real.
How is it our children can do that? Is it because they have a pure love for their momma?
No Hiding My Soul
Even as a small tiny malnourished baby, she could see my soul.
I almost could not bear it. She would look intently into my soul and it seemed she was saying to my soul,
You are my mommy and this is my home.
She was only a few months old. I fell into deep love with this child of my heart who lay my soul bare.
…the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you. I Corinthians 14:25
He Sees into My Heart
Seeing Jesus in my loved ones doesn’t usually make me squirm. It usually warms my heart.
Through her eyes, I see myself all too clearly.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. Genesis 3:7
There is no covering that can hide me from His eyes. Looking at my own heart as she looks at me makes me knowing there is no hiding from God.
No hiding.
Meg is both knowing and forgiving.
It is not easy to bear when Meg is looking at me intently; any more than when I know God searches my heart and knows and loves me still.
He loves me still!
“As for you,…serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. 1 Chronicles 28:9
No hiding.

I have a similar eye sculpture. My granddaughter made it in pottery class. I have a picture hanging over it that says “ His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”❤️

Love that!
