a fresh look for the living room
Two trees in the living room turned out to be just perfect.
two trees and a sled
I wasn’t sure about this. Would it look like a hotel lobby? Too much for our farmhouse, for the room?
The two boxes were easy to bring down from the attic. We do have a flock tree too. It’s in another room. Neither one of us can recall why we have two green trees. We do have several theories.
Turns out there was no need for concern at all. We may have started a trend. Doing this made decorating easier to my surprise.
We are loving it!
Two trees set on each side of the fireplace are both green but one holds a display of our collection of engraved brass travel destination ornaments with other complimentary ornaments added.
The other tree has family ones including those made by the kids. Colored lights add to the festive traditional look of the two trees.
Sitting next to one is a German antique sled. Years ago when we were stationed in Hanau Gremany, i bought it at an early morning Saturday pop up flea market. On Saturday mornings, at the large parking lot, vendors came early! I joined other fellow military wives to head out early that morning to be the first buyers!
Trucks were still being unloaded as we drove up. Mission accomplished…to get the best shot at the best picks.
It’s one of many pieces we stored with friends while we lived in China. Thanks to the generosity of friends, we were able to keep treasured pieces Why? They stored our pieces in their spare spaces. We did buy another home and retrieved our things.
Built-Ins Decked with toys and figurines
Special stuffed animals include a beloved hand size Snowman. We must have left it in a taxi. Amy loved it so much a friend bought her a new one. She spotted it in a local market. The large bears were bedfellows for Meg. Others are toys.
The fun Santa was Mom’s. It reminded her of a fun pose of toddler Robert’s.
The deep window sill is part of the built-ins. I included the usual photos with the snowmen and the Hallmark felt tree from at least 10 years ago.
dancing snowmen
No matter where I put these Dancing Snowmen, the grandkids find it and remember to push the button. Let the dancing begin!
It’s on a stool next to the other tree of the two trees to balance out the sled next to the other one.
The Dancing Snowman are a must. We have had this for more than 10 years. The girls delighted in pushing the button and dancing along. I had no idea it would bring so much fun for the kids and laughter for us grown ups.
The grandkids now dance to it like their aunts did. It’s Hallmark. I checked our local store; there are no dancing snowmen but there are newer versions of winter dancing figures.
cozy, comfortable room for everyone
Simple but festive. I didn’t use greenery in this room. The two trees was just the right amount of greenery. The trees are artifical. After losing glass ornaments to floppy branches and dry needles falling off at an alarming rate, we have stuck to artifical.
Honestly, we were both surprised at how much we liked having two trees. It simplified decorating, Limiting it to the two trees and small items like the figurines and short red and gold garland draped on the build ins was still very beautiful and cozy!
At different times during the day, we may read or sit together to talk. PS. We do watch TV here too.
