Our New York City weekend with Amy was exciting, fun, and hot! She had a great visit planned for us.
It was nice that Jim and I didn’t have to do any planning. Amy did comment that it was a lot easier when we did.
Train and Subway To Amy’s Apartment
Friday night, we made it from NYC’s Penn Station to the subway to Amy’s apartment. In case I haven’t mentioned it, it was HOT! Thank goodness for air conditioned subway cars.
Staying true to mininmal packing, we only brought 2 soft bags and one backpack. The mesh bag was for water and snacks for the train.
Tip! Lancaster Amtrak Station Parking There is a new parking lot behind the station. Park there for free (at least for now) and catch the shuttle bus to the station. The shuttle runs regularly until the last train arrives. It really helped make our round trip stress free!
Amy came down to met us on her street to make sure we found the non discript entrance. I was so thankful for the cold water and pizza waiting for us when we made it up the 5 flights of stairs.
I absolutely love her new apartment. It was also good to spend the evening with her roommates.
saturday morning at New York City Musuem of Modern Art
Amy ordered bagels and cream cheese from Russ and Daughters for breakfast. Mimosas made it a celebration to start our day.
After Amy’s briefing on the routes, off we went with her leading the way.
I was pleasantly surprised when kind people gave up their seats for Jim and I. Being older did afford us the opportunity to experience kindness.
Tip! Using Apple pay for the fares was so easy! I highly recomend it. Meg just tapped the screen for each of us to enter through the turnstiles.
On our way to the Muesum of Modern Art, we took a coffee break at the Blue Bottle. I liked the clean lines of the decor and the logo products. Amy purchased tickets earlier on line
The iced coffee was really good too!
New York City Museum of Modern Art
We headed to the Museum of Modern Art. Amy made reservations for us. Hours are 10:30 – 5:30. Double check the times as they can vary. There are entry fees.
Plan to be there early especially on weekends to beat the lines. Bags are searched and only unopened water bottles are allowed. If modern art isn’t of interest to you, remember there are so many museums in New York City to visit!
Tip! Wear your most comfortable walking shoes. We walked over 7 miles and went up and down many stairs.
The stunning interior architectural design is spacious and open. Each space was designed to highlight the featured art displays. Will’s by the large window taking in a spectacular view!
We had a laugh over how Amy and I were twining down to our sock style!
Meg and I rested on one of the many benches.
Amy photographed art from the massive collection.
Yes, that is a Monet panel!
Plan to spend several hours for your MoMA visit. It’s worth it!
Italian for lunch
Next we headed to at an Italian resturant for lunch. The server kept the cold water coming!
Our meal starting with shared appetizers then we each ordered pasta dishes.
Refreshed, we decided to go back to the apartment and hotel to rest before heading to a night game at Yankee Stadium.
Tip! Plan to visit only 2 or 3 attractions each day. Sometimes it’s better to not plan more each day. It can be tiring and overwhelming. There are exceptions like Williamsburg and amusement parks.
Our vacations this summer are several shorter trips with different family members. How about you? What are your plans.

We love visiting our kids in NYC and this looks like a weekend we’d have too. We love the MOMA. This looked like a very fun visit.

We did have fun though the heat almost did me in. It was the first time we trained. Pretty sure it won’t be our last.

What a wonderful thing…to have your trip all planned out by someone else! Actually, I’m going to Ireland and Scotland with a friend, and our trip is all planned out as we opted for a tour company rather than trying to figure it out ourselves. It will be my first ever vacation without my husband as he will have just had hip replacement surgery. He also says his days of flying over the pond are probably over. That makes me sad as I want to go to so many places in Europe…which we had planned for when we retired. I look forward to day 2!

It was wonderful Marsha. Hope you have a fun time with your friend on your Ireland; Scotland trip. We’ve only done a few day trip tours. But I wuld love to do a cruise in a couple of spots we haven’t been before. Hope your husband has a strong recovery. Hope you are able to travel to Europe inm the years to come with him.
