You are in for a treat as you see how wonderful they have decorated their homes for a Merry and Bright holiday!
Christmas time is full of happiness and cheer!
Red and Green for Holiday Cheer
Traditional colors were the ones I focused on this year for the living room and dining room. Red and green of course!
I focused on simplifying the decor this year. We are truly empty nesters now. As more red and green bins were brought down from the attic, I only wanted to simplify and to not unpack all of our beloved holiday decor this year.
Jim had done a wonderful job of packing all the decorations and even better, he made sure those necessary labels were in place as well, thankfully,
A red tree for the living room
There is always some furniture rearranging. The love seat was moved to the opposite side for a cozier feel to the room. Removing the rug exposed our beautiful original pine subfloors. And I am loving how it looks.
Our living room feels larger.
The tree is not quite in the corner. The lights shine out the window on front side of our home. Going with the red theme, I reversed the tree skirt to the red side.
Snowmen childhood favorites
Around the room are several snowmen. This duo are the dancing snowmen in the oxbow Chinese antique chair. The girls danced their tune and the grandkids do now.
These snowmen are sitting on the the German wooden sled. It’s a flea market buy when we lived there years ago during Jim’s army years. You can see they have been well loved.
Pillows bring more cheer to the grey couches. The red tartan blanket from Eddie Bauer is a favorite.
Christmas Time VIGNETTES
Circling the lamp on the Chinese buffet with pine and pine cones large stems. Topped with red beads for color is a simple way to add Christmas cheer to the room. The green glass lantern with the silver glass tree is the second piece. To complete the vignette I added the unique vintage red chest embossed with gold. Last, I just draped a strand of red shiny beads over the greenery.
In the deep window well, I used two tall deep red glass trees. Again, a large stem of greenery was used for a base for the gold angel, tall mercury candleholder with a pillar battery candle together. Two additional candles add depth to the arrangement. Again, I draped red beads.
dining room cheerful elegance
The plaid tablecloth is basic to most of my Christmas tables No, I didn’t set it. That will come this weekend when my son and his family come this weekend.
Continuing with a more simple centerpiece, I laid out a long full garland of greenery with red berries and small pinecones anchored by brass candlesticks with burgundy red candles. I randomly tucked gold ornaments in the garland.
I used a beads again with red and gold glitter balls. Seems to be a common item this year!
First, I just loosely placed the beads down the greenery and just as needed.
It is so simple and so pretty.
On the buffet, I added pine branches to the fall arrangement of deep red and white hydrangeas. Truly, as I unwrapped pieces from the bins, I found the two sweet little deer around the vase. And can you guess what else? Red and gold glitter bead garland.
The beads are a cheap terrific way to add interest to your vignettes and trees. They also remind me of the trees of mychildhood.
The trio of silver glass trees are in the center. The silver chafing dish was my mom’s.
I just think silver pieces are perfect to use during Christmas time.
Finally, the coffee set with the sleigh design is a bit of formal whimsy. These dishes make me smile because of the sweet memories four first Christmas in Asia over 15 years ago.

Red and green are perfect colors and work so well in your home. Plaid is always associated with a Christmas table.
Marsha Banks says
There is nothing like that red and green plaid, right? I have a tablecloth almost exactly like yours, but I went a different direction this year. I love all the memories you’ve shared as you describe the items. I think that’s the hard part about getting rid of Christmas decorations…most all have stories behind them.
