Amy could not be happier with her new bedroom! She had a vision and we took it slow and kept to it. Her mom, me, tends to a rush to finish! This is the first of several posts about our recent renovations of the girls’ bedrooms and the downstairs dining room and living room.
First, it was very apparent we needed to replace the outdated built-ins with closets. In part we were considereing a move and knew we had to be updated! The finished rooms exceeded our hopes!
The outdated built ins came out of the girls’ rooms. Custom built in closets replaced them. Amy selected large crystal knobs.
Night and day difference!
Two double door sections with overheads were on each side of the “must have” window seat. Three deep drawers across the bottom add even more storage space. To cover up where part of the new chimney came through the floor to the attic, we had shallow adjustable shelves put in. Though there are doors we opted to leave the shelves open. In both rooms we considered how the girls lived in their rooms and tried to customize the new spaces to fit that.
No cushion yet but lux pillows and a hand crafted throw invite Amy and visitors to take a seat in this little special spot. I find this to be a touch romantic. The Roman shades made from a curtain panel completed the look.
The chest of drawers fit nicely next to the boxy closet.
A French style chair commandeered from another part of the house was a wonderful addition. Perfect! Her friends have pronounced the room pinterest-y!
The lack of art work has not diminished the subtle beauty of this room.
Touches of color personalize this room with mementos of the past and fresh flowers. Don’t you love the niches of small shelves for her special mementos.
Yes, I love this room fit for a teen. And so does our teen!

Wow, looks like a page from a magazine.
Did you take the old unit off the wall and put a new one up? Or did you just change the face of it? Did you and Amy do all these by yourself?
Beautiful. Nicely done?

The contractors tore everything out. The new closets were custom made. Nothing suited our needs since it was all odd sized shelving and a desk. Jim painted the walls . Amy and I gathered the bedding, etc. Jim put the rods up. A family effort!

Beautiful. Great job, I know Amy is proud to show her friends. Is the chest of drawers from some of your old furniture?
Can’t wait to see the rest of your house.

I knew it looked like some of what used to be in the house.
