Fall Vignettes & Arrangements: Create Cozy Vibes Now
Rusty burnt orange reflects the changing leaves meaning fall is on its way. Here in Central PA there aren’t actually leaves changing yet but the morning and late in the days are cool full of the promise of days to come.
Fall Vignettes & Arrangements: Create Cozy Vibes now

It’s a little too early to bring out all the fall decor with all of its glorious colors. The days are still warm and no leaves are changing yet
Limiting decor to creating arrangements and vignettes during the early days of fall makes it easier for busy people whose schedule is filling up.

My color inspiration was from our back patio urns. The rich deep burgundy dahlias have been blooming all summer. Most of the faux florals in the medium size bin from the attic storage were rich red colors with a little burnt orange.
I like to reuse seasonal decor whenever possible.
Ivory with natural oatmeal colored linens are staple colors are beautiful additions to enhance the reds in the arrangements and vignettes.
easy DIY fall arrangement for the dining room buffet

*Chose a color theme then add complementary colors.
The dark red, burgundy and ivory hydrangeas plus lamb’s ear and two bunches of various smaller flowers and stems all look fabulous together.
Our traditional dining room with the rustic exposed brick walls is formal because of the furniture. It’s rustic because of the exposed brick walls. Our home is an authentic farmhouse that is over 200 years old.
Somehow, it all works together.
*Consider scale of your piece of furniture as you select which items to use for your vignette.
Using the tall crystal vase and brass candlesticks that can be formal was good choice to pair with the large blooms of the hydrangas. For this long buffet, a tall vase was the best size. Also use large blooms for this arrangement. Otherwise, it would be lost on the long buffet.
*Scale and balance both work together as you build your vignette
The tall vase sits at on end of the buffet; the other end has a large tall ginger jar lamp.
Creating arrangements for rustic elegance

*Cut the stems of your faux florals when they don’t fit into the vase or container
I know; it’s obvious. I thought I was saving money when actually I was just frustrating myself. Sometimes bending is not going work. Did I think my containers and vases were magically going change sizes?
Cutting those stems and bunches make arranging so much easier. Less frustration and more satisfaction as you create the arrangements.
The crystal vase is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. The bent hydrangea stems just would not fit. For the thick stems, heavy duty wire cutters were necessary.
fall dining room buffet: how to build a fall VIGNETTE

*Adding items in threes to a vignette adds interest, contrast and depth.
I do love red for both as a primary color and for accent Many items in my cabinet storage are red or have red in the design like these small cloisonné bowls. The paper Mâché box with orange and black has complementary classic fall colors.
finding Scale and balance for vignettes

Eventually, the arrangement came together. I love how it looks on the buffet. But the balance was off so it wasn’t finished.
On one end is the large tall lamp with assortment of glass pieces around its base.
I grabbed 2 small cloisonné bowls and a paper Mâché box from the tray on the credenza and arranged them around the vase. It helped by bringing some depth to the vignette. However, the balance was still off.
The scale of the arrangement was tall with large flowers. The boxes were small. Something in the midsize was needed to pull it all together for scale and depth.
Adding 2 of the candlesticks from the table to the side of the arrangement completed the vignette.

The tried and true principle of using threes for visual interest with staggered heights and depth worked. Scale and balance is also a key principle when arranging a vignette for every season!
Fall dining table Centerpiece soup Tureen Makes a Beautiful Fall CENTERPIECE

Making a wreath around my soup tureen was something I had not thought to do, at least for fall. I saw this simple way to make a centerpiece on Pinterest. Why do I love this so much?
There are several soup tureens and large covered vegetable bowls in the china cabinets that are part of the china sets. I like to use what I have but it’s tough to use those large soup tureens. Now, I will be pulling them out more frequently.
I used the round silver platter as a base. Any platter, charger or wooden piece would also work. Every item you use is part of creating a particular theme and style. For example, I often use my antique dough bowl as a base for centerpieces.

The bunches of deep red flowers and small berry stems with dark greens had to be cut apart. Sometimes the stems can be separated and pulled apart.
Remember, the floral are for you to use, not to save for another day.

Layer stems for easy to make ARRANGEMENT for soup tureen

On top of the tray I put the cut stems layered around the radius and tucked them close together for fullness.

After I put the tureen on top, I tweaked the wreath by bending the flowers, stems and leaves this way and that until I was satisfied.
Those two remaining candlesticks went on the sides in a traditional arrangement.
fall Arrangemnts for the middle sitting room

In the middle sitting room I replaced the pink arrangement in the mini vase with small burnt orange flowers and a stem from the bunch I had cut apart and separated. Quick and easy.

Next, I arranged the long berry stem behind the smaller photographs of grandchildren on top of the bookcase. A simple touch. I didn’t cut the stem because I often use it in a large ceramic vase. It was easy to hide behind the framed photos.

Switching out photos on the clock shelf to ones of our moms in their late teens that are black and white and Sepia colors was a nice addition. The amber glass candle finished the vignette.
Creating VIGNETTERS for your home that is a place to love

Creating vignettes for your home to be a place to love can be easy and simple. Each one should contribute to the atmosphere wanted for our home. They should reflect the style. and individuality of your home.
Making our homes into welcoming and peaceful places to come home to is important for us and our families. Even for roommates. Welcoming with calm and cosy can be part of bringing rest and moments of peace into your life.
Hope you are encourages and helped as you make your home just that!

Hi, Linda. Thank you for sharing this with me. I do not find it easy to decorate. You have given me some inspiration! I can do simple and setting out a few vases with fall flowers is a good place to begin. I like KISS. Keep It Silly Simple!!
Take care and best wishes.
Hi Debra. Glad the post was helpful. How many times have I made things just to complex when there is no reason to do that! I am enjoying your posts.
Oh, I do love your simple yet so beautiful decorations! I love the colors of autumn, and you’ve done such a wonderful job of combining different colors together.
Fall is my second favorite time to decorate! I am not decorating as much this year as my husband had his hip replaced in July. I need help getting things out of the attic and up from the crawlspace so I’m just using what’s in the house. He’s also in a wheelchair off and on so the house is just a mess. This will be the first time in a long time I haven’t really decorated like I usually do.
Have a wonderful week!

Thanks your for your kind comments. I love to decorate in the fal too. Christmas is first! I’m not decorating as much. Carrying those bins from the attic gets harder every year. Plus, we are scaling down what we store. Hope your husband is moving around easier soon.
