New York City Weekend Part 2 …4 Travel Tips plus Yankee Stadium

The five of us in the upper deck

Amy took us to the ballgame at Yankee Stadium for our last stop of the NYC weekend. Don’t we look cool and rested?

TIP #1 When it is really hot, plan for an afternoon rest. Jim and I needed physical rest. The kids just hung out in Amy’s air conditioned apartment. Trust me on this…even children need a rest. It makes the day go more smoothly!

Jim and Linda at subway platform

TIP #2 Hydrate! It was so hot the entire weekend. Amy bought fans for all of us knowing it would be. The subway cars are air conditioned but the platform areas are not.

We all wore our hats too. There were no clouds. After we left the MoMA, we headed toward the Italian restaurant where we had reservations for lunch.

TIP #3 Make restaurant reservations. Remember to preorder tickets for any event venue.

The server kept the water coming! We enjoyed appetizers and past dishes. Since we were close to Amy’s apartment and the hotel, we all agreed a nap was in order. Will kindly agreed to go up Amy’s 5 flights of stairs so I could go to the hotel and use the elevator! The desk clerk gave Jim and I ice cold cups of water when we came in. Everyone who came in got one. It was so HOT!

Between the cups of cold water and nice clean rooms with Dove toiletries and comfy bed, I definitely recommend the Holiday Inn Manhattan on the Lower East Side. It had everything you would want in a hotel….good locations, staff and nice clean rooms and well maintained.

TIP #4 When planning for your trips, include snacks and concession costs and add 10%. Good planning ahead and adding a cushion for expenses can relieve potential stress.

Perfect seats!

Yes, we were in the upper level but gosh! What view! Seats in the shade and no sun in our eyes!

Eagerly, we waited for our favorite Yankees to bat. The other bonus was watching the opposing team, Atlanta Braves. It is the favorite of our boys and me since childhood. I’m from Chattanooga, just north of Atlanta. We lived in the south during most of their childhood.

I also credit the Braves being the childhood favorite to my mom. She was a hard core baseball fan! And the Braves were her team. Grandparents are indeed influencers!

Jim is the hard core Yankee fan in the family. It’s from his childhood.

The tickets were affordable too. Big buckets of chicken fingers and fries were $26, enough for the 5 of us for supper. We all know concessions can be big budget busters.

The Yankees won. It was a fun time!

Riding the Train Home

We left early the next morning. Amy made a to go breakfast for us of hash browns and bagels. Thank goodness, we caught an UBER to Penn Station. It was about the same price the subway cost would have been. Traffic is light on early Sunday mornings so we made it in plenty of time.

Waiting for the train in in the ticket holder area was very nice. Food venders were near by. Meg enjoyed her hot chocolate and the irresistible giant s’mores cookie.

Having a nice clean space to wait for our departure was nice. Will, Meg, Jim and I reviewed weekend.

It definitely got a 10!

Though the train was full we were able to snag a set of 4 seats together. Yes, we did snooze some too.

Knowing there was a bus that would take us to the parking lot was another part of our travel being smooth.

Thanks Amy for a good time!

Tell us about a fun weekend trip you’ve taken.

I haven’t ever been to a professional baseball game, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ll remember the tip to sit up high in the shade! What a fun trip!

We usually go to Baltimore and Washington DC games at least once a year. Helps that we live near several stadiums and all our guys love baseball!
