Amy knew exactly where to go shopping for new dining room chairs. Mom and Dad just happen to have really cute rattan chairs on their back porch!
One problem empty nesters can have is to convince their kids to take furniture and other item from their family home not just when kids move out but also when parents begin to downsize. There are lots of reasons for that. Often it is no room in their place or no way to transport any thing except without a large expense. Maybe they just don’t want anything.
Then, parents have to decide what to do with all. That is another topic for another time.
More room in the new apartment
Amy texted asking if she could have 4 of the rattan porch chairs. Only 4?
We have 6.
She and her roommates recently moved to a larger apartment and actually have space for a dining table!
Are you kidding? Yes!
It was such an easy answer.
cute rattan chairs from the back porch
Our rattan chairs on the back porch were going to look so pretty around the new dining table.
She scrubbed them clean for the elements and bought pretty soft light pink cushions to replace the light beige ones. Turns out they are in style! Perfect for these young professionals.
The four rattan chairs were loaded in Meg’s car along with the short antique Chinese farmhouse bench and blue embroidered pouf from college days. She also took some garden produce and cut hydrangeas.
Meg, the younger sister of the pair helped out by being both mover and delivery driver. She was back before dark! Meg is young enough to make those crazy long drives I can only vaguely remember doing.
They were stacked until the new table arrived. The bench and pouf were for her room that is not only larger; it also has windows!
It was a painless easy way for us to help Amy by giving her some furniture. It was a win for all of us.
vintage wicker furniture on the back porch
Don’t worry. We still have plenty of space for everyone to sit. The vintage wicker furniture stored in the basement replaced the rattan.
The vintage wicker and back porch definitely needs some loving care. Another space update to contemplate and plan to do for me!
It worked out well for all of us.
