Table for Two

Love is in the Air!

This romantic Valentine tablescape for two is an easy one to create. Easy but quietly elegant and very romantic!

You don’t need to go out for Valentine’s. Here is all you need to create a beautiful romantic setting at home!

Candle light with touches of the traditional red are all part of creating a soft romantic atmosphere.

Inspired valentine table

This table for two on Valentine’s is romantically elegant. A table set with quiet elegance to be romantic does not need to be elaborate or expensive to create.

What you need:

Basic white dishes

White table cloth and napkins

Clear wine glasses

Mercury votives and larger red votives

Votive candles

Wide satin red ribbon

Small white dipping bowls

Quietly elegant and romantic

It is easier than you may think to create a quietly elegant table that is also romantic.

Using white dishes, a white table cloth and red satin ribbon with 2 red large votives are the basic elements of this table. Simply designed silverware you use daily and plain glasses can easily be used with the same elegant results.

I used my inheriated vintage white with gold trim dishes, crystal and my mom’s silver. We bought the cut crystal in our early days of marriage 45 years ago.

Cut crystal glassware sparkles in the candlelight. The candlelight casts a romantic atmosphere over the table.

INTIMATE setting

Table for Two by Bookcase

For this intimate setting, I moved the game table beside the living room built in cabinets. It is a 36 inch square which is a folding card table size.

I also put candles all around the space of the bookshelves.

So romantic!

Quiet Elegance is classic SIMPLICITY

The beauty of using a card table is actually the size!

A card table is easy to move. You only have move 2 chairs. The space to set up could be anywhere in your home.

By the fire. in your bedroom, office or kitchen. Even outside!

The Valentine red ribbon on the white table cloth is the centerpiece once you add the votives. Votive candle light on the table and around the room sets the romantic atmosphere. Votives are also nice because they don’t take up tabletop space.

A pristine white table cloth is the base for this quietly elegant table. It is a longer one so I folded in half.

The Valentine red ribbon on the white table cloth is the centerpiece. Adding votive candles in mercury glass holders light the table. Put some around the space like I did on the bookcases to add to the romantic atmosphere.

Votives are also nice because they don’t take up tabletop space. The decoration is simple; a long piece of red satin ribbon. Place two large red mercury glass votives on top of the ribbon.

This is the elegant simple centerpiece.

I’m sure you noticed that I didn’t use a centerpiece. A 36 inch square table only needs a simple centerpiece. A few flowers, short votives or candles when setting it for a meal is all that is needed for a 36 inch table.

The wide satin red ribbon doesn’t have to be Valentine red; it could be pink or gold. Chose the color you like for Valentine’s!

Keeping to the basics of romance and quiet elegance

The 2 small decorative dishes with heart cut out handles could be for dipping oil or a single roll. I picked these up at Home Goods a few years ago. The heart handles are subtle which means they can be used for other tables year round.

Another way to add color for Valentine’s Day is using candy!

Candy is the traditional gift to give a sweetheart so why not use those pretty pieces on your Valentine table. Just piece or two by each plate will do.

keeping the place setting elegantly simple

Table for Two Place Setting

I didn’t add extras to place settings as a formal setting would have. The stack of plates will be removed as they’re used. Only a fork and knife is needed. I could have added a small fork for salad but opted not too. I did place a spoon above the plates for the after dinner coffee.

White and red are the only colors on this table.

Our vintage china has gold trim with the traditional black Greek key design. The soft grey design is subtle. I have always loved their beautiful elegance.

The napkins are not ironed as you can see. They are lovely vintage ones that I hand wash and air dry.

Quiet Elegance for a Valentine Tablescape

Layering the salad and dinner plates make a striking arrangement. I keep the red and white theme by not using different china.

    Definitely romantic.
Funny story about Valentine’s day. I got some Valentine’s balloons and a card with a book of tickets for like “you choose the dinner” or “you choose what TV show to watch” and I put this all up on the front door. I was cooking our dinner and right before my husband came home my neighbor across the street called and asked if I was throwing a party and I asked why. She replied look outside and there were cars lined up and down our block waiting to see my husband’s face when he came home.
    Happy Valentine’s Day
