MY first blog hop! I’m part of the Thistlewood Master Mind VIP fall project blog hop. Join along for some great inspiration!

Corn stalks for the porch

My fall Project has been in the making all the way back to spring planting!

Jim planted the corn, we ate it this summer and then we cut the stalks when September came.

They were just what I wanted for our porch fall decorations.

By the way, Lancaster is not know only for the Amish communities; it is also known for the best corn! They claim bragging rights to the sweetest in the land.

Looking to our community for inspiration is easy during the fall…corn stalks. Our local stands have so many pumpkins. Different types, colors and shapes.

It’s a definite stop at our local market about one mile away.

Harvest time

It was time to cut them down. Jim pretty much did all the work. I was only able to cut through 1 stalk! One!

Jim easily cut the rest. The roots will go into the compost.

My contribution besides taking photos was to carry stalks to the front yard. We cut lengths of wire covered in natural twine to tie them on to the porch posts.

ribbon to refresh

Earlier last week, I had refreshed the fall swags I bought years ago from Pier 1. It was quite the switch as these swags are typically part of the dining room fall decor.

I love using ribbon to bring new life into older decorations. Ribbon really helps to stretch my decorating dollars.

The “new” old swags are perfect for our front porch. Our home is over 200 years old and has the unique feature of two front doors. Why two? No one seems to know the origin. They are hanging from the aging porch lights.

We used this natural twine wrapped wire for holding the corn stalks on the posts. It is easier to work with rather than the green florist wire. Make sure you have your wire cutters on hand. Percutting the lengths is helpful.

The large metal J in the center works well. The weather and wind sweeps in across the porch blowing the wicker and wreaths off. So far the heavy metal J has not blown away.

Jim and I dressed up the porch with our home grown corn stalks. We moved the pumpkins around. I may be adding more as the days of fall are full on!

Pumpkins are a must

I love pumpkin shopping with the grandkids. It’s something we do annually. They are so delighted with all the varieties while we adults talk about how we only had orange pumpkins! Each of them certainly made very different choices.

House side steps decorated

We had enough stalks to put on the lamp post by the side steps. Everyone comes to our house through the gate. I hope the pumpkins especially the “sunshine” one don’t get blown off!

I really like the yellow pumpkins that are showing up in the markets this year.

This fall project was a joint effort. Grandkids helped with picking out pumpkins for decorating. Jim planted more corn than previous years for more stalks. We worked together to put is all up.

Hope you enjoyed my fall project and have been inspired.
