Sweetheart Cherry Cobbler is an easy dessert to make on Valentine’s Day for your sweetheart.

A day of love for all ages

Pretty decorated hearts full of chocolates, maybe roses too are gifts a fella might give his sweetheart. A nice dinner out might be involved.

Children look forward to giving and receiving those cute cards too.

Does Valentine’s Day conjure up memories of elementary school and those decorated shoe boxes. Back in the day, a list was sent home so no one would be left out!

Using the fun polka dot dishes is for all ages! Jim and I will be having the cobbler for our morning break.

why cherry cobbler?

Sweetheart Cherry Cobbler is easy to make and affordable. Preparation in minutes and baking takes almost an hour. It is so yummy when it is hot. Add a scoop of ice cream that makes it an extra special dessert.

There is a legend that illustrates George Washington’s honesty and integrity. Young George was caught cutting down a cherry tree. When confronted with his action, he reportedly said,
“I cannot tell a lie. It was me.”

This legend served a dual purpose for school children and indeed, all of us. Don’t lie. It is not virtuous. This story was to illustrate that Washington was an honorable and virtuous man from his childhood forward. His remarkable career of public service including being the United States’ first president is still admired today. Actions he took as president still stand as the standard today.

With Washington from the example from his childhood, as children, we were taught in school and at home that we should not lie.

Because it was a cherry tree that he chopped down, cherries became the symbol of President’s Day. When it is celebrated in February, cherry desserts and pastries are very popular.

“Honest Abe”, Abraham Lincoln is also honored on President’s Day.

I make cherry cobbler often when I need an easy to make quick dessert or afternoon offering to go with coffee or tea. Reminder, do not stir the batter and melted butter together!

If Meg and Nancy with her kids drop by, if there is ice cream in the freezer, they will want a scoop to top it off!

Any leftovers are finished off for breakfast the next morning.

This Valentine’s, I wanted a simple to make Valentine dessert. I did think about cakes and cupcakes, Then I remembered cherry is the fruit of choice for February baking!
